The course of Comparative Canon Law provides the study of Canon Law compared to the law of the other Christian denominations and the primary elements of the legal structures of the other monotheist religions.
The study course differs in two paths: one for jurists and one for theologians. Referring to the first, so to those who already have an academic education in legal subjects and don’t have a canon degree in Theology, they must attend an introductive two-year course about theology-philosophy that includes four semesters. For the second, so to those who already got an academic degree in Theology, is not necessary to attend the introductive two-year course, although they could be obliged by the board of direction of the Institute to choose some course or seminary among those offered in the FTL.
To graduate it is necessary to achieve 120 Ects (European Credit Transfer System), that could be obtained at least in a two-years course (4 semesters).
After the Master degree one can keep studying Canon Law at the Universities of Canon Law (in Italy or in other European countries) with which it endorsed agreements (e.g. Faculty of Saint Pius X Venice, Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and Pontifical Lateran University), in accordance with the Novo Codice instructions regarding the third year and final exams.
Students, who want to get the Master of Arts degree have to enrol at the Faculty of Theology of Lugano.
